  10. I like to read First Grade Jitters and have "jitter juice." We also go on a "scavenger hunt" through the school to learn where everything is. :o)

  14. Reading Chrysanthemum and crinkling up a big pink heart when someone says something unkind to Chrysanthemum in the story. After we talk about using kind words and how unkind words can never be taken back (the heart will always be crinkled!). The kids love taking turns crinkling and the heart stays up all year on the wall as a reminder.

  17. I read Lunch Bunnies just before we got to the cafeteria to practice procedures. It's a sweet story about being nervous and being a friend.

  28. The adults in our classroom each have a ME bag (lunch bag w/ 3 or 4 things that we love, like to do, etc). Each adult shares their items then the children are given bags to bring home to put their items in to share on Friday. On Friday, the children share (we take pictures), then they get to write a little about their items & we make our first class book.

  31. I do a big lesson on how it's okay to feel excited, nervous, scared, and disappointed that summer is over and a new year is beginning. I tell them teachers get nervous every year. I love how my first graders always look so relived!
