Scholastic News and Finally in First

Hop on over to Jenn's blog, Finally in First, and check out her super cool info on Scholastic News.  I'm a big fan of Scholastic News.  I, like Jenn, often find it hard to incorporate non-fiction text for my first graders.  It's often hard to find appropriately leveled non-fiction text.  Scholastic News however, fits the bill quite nicely.  Jenn is giving away a subscription to Scholastic News--you must hop over and visit her blog!

What If We Treated Doctors The Way We Treat Teachers

An interesting article.  Something to think about in these times of top-down driven education reform.

It's been a rough couple of days! WHEW!

After a couple of rough days, with student behaviors that make you wonder about how you'll make it past the 100th day...I came home to find a friend had shared this video on FB.  I'm thankful to have seen this today.  My problems seem so small.  <prepare yourself, get a tissue!>

Do you DIBEL?

For my district, DIBELs mid-year benchmarks are currently being completed.  I try to give my students as many opportunities to practice NWF (nonsense word fluency) as I can.  I have created a variety of different games that my students absolutely love, and they beg to play!  My newest games are Cupid Crossing, a Valentine themed NWF practice game; Chaos with Cat-in-the-Hat, a Dr. Seuss Cat-in-the-Hat themed NWF practice game; and There's No Place Like Home a Wizard of Oz themed NWF practice game.
