Shine a little light on me!

I know you can all relate to the addictive nature of Target.  The neatly organized merchandise just begging to be bought...Well, I couldn't resist this nice little lamp, well actually two nice little lamps.  Yes, they're a little--well, plain would be a nice way to say it, but the cool thing about "plain" is, it can always be jazzed up!

So....I thought maybe a little ribbon and hot glue might do the trick.

         ribbon + lamp =
                                                   ribbon-lamp :)

Now, the only trick will be finding a place to plug these in in the classroom.  My building is 100ish years old, and electrical outlets are too few and far between in our classrooms!

Diary of a Worm, by Doreen Cronin

I absolutely adore Doreen Cronin's books.  Diary of a Worm is a fave, but Diary of a Spider and Click, Clack, Moo are super fun too.  I just completed a new unit that uses Diary of a Worm as a jumping off point.  I also included several nonfiction books in my literature resources too.  This unit meets many of the Common Core Language Arts Standards for reading literature and reading informational texts.  I also included a good dose of science, especially helpful if you're like me, trying to squeeze science in between lunch and specials class.    Stop by my TpT store or my Teachers Notebook shop and check it out.

A related unit, Inchworm Measuring Center is also available, and was designed to help meet the Common Core Standards in Measurement and Data.

Do you Open Court? And sight words, sight words, sight words...

Looking for other bloggers who teach from the Open Court reading series.  I'm beginning to delve into Common Core Standards, and I'm taking a look at my Open Court curriculum.  Hmmm, oh boy! How do these match up?  This should be an interesting year!

On another note...I am constantly practicing sight word fluency with my students, along with nonsense word fluency, oral reading fluency, etc...I find that providing students with different sight word games, on a variety of themes, helps to keep sight word practice fresh, and keeps students engaged.  I have finished uploading new sight word practice games to my TpT store, and my Teacher Notebook store too.  Check them out. ☺

You can all relate to this!

New shoes! You know how your kiddos are when they get new shoes.  "Ms. Holk, I got new Jordans!" Or: "Ms. Holk, look what my sneakers do!" and with a stomp, they twinkle like Tinkerbell.  (I secretly want a pair of those twinkletoe shoes in an adult size!)  SO, you have to click on over to Mrs. Tabb's blog and check out her new unit on shoes.  How cool is that?!
